Sunshine Coast Shared Pools, Qld

Commencing 1st December 2010 | Short Term Accommodatio Providers | Body Corporates

Short Term Accommodation Providers Sunshine Coast. For shared pools associated with short term accommodation, such as hotels, motels, Resorts, backpackers or hostels, a six month phase-in period applies to obtain a pool safety certificate.

Sunshine Coast Body Corporates. A two year phase-in period to obtain a pool safety certificate applies to other shared pools, such as common pools in a block of units. However pool safety certificates will be required when selling or leasing a property with a pool even if the property has a shared pool. It is then up to the Body Corporate to arrange for a pool safety inspection. Suficent works must be carried out to meet compliance standards should a pool not comply. Once issued with a Pool Safety Certificate, an inspection will be required every year.

Proposed changes will require pool owners to have a current compliance certificate certifying that their pool meets safety standards. This certificate will be required at time of lease or sale from December this year.

CPR signs

New pool safety laws being implemented from summer 2010 will require all pools to display the latest prescribed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) sign adopted by the Australian Resuscitation Council by December 2015, unless sold or leased first.

Warning signs

Signs to warn the public that a swimming pool is under construction must also be displayed, however, these requirements will not apply to portable pools that can be moved from place to place, such as portable spas and pools.

Pool Safety Qld

The Queensland Government has introduced Australia's toughest new pool safety laws as a result of the most comprehensive review of Queensland's swimming pool safety laws in nearly 20 years.

The new pool safety laws aim to further reduce the incidences of drowning and serious immersion injuries of young children in swimming pools.

Between 1 January 2004 and 18 May 2010, 35 children under five years of age drowned in Queensland's residential swimming pools, as well as two drownings in wading pools and one in a home-made pool.
